Celtic Dragons can today share the news that the 2020 Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) has been cancelled due to the continued impact of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Celtic Dragons and Welsh Netball have been in communication with the VNSL Board, England Netball and the other franchises to reach a decision on the season, which commenced in February and was paused on 15 March due to Coronavirus.
Since the outbreak, the VNSL Board have been continually monitoring government and medical advice and have carefully considered various scenarios for reigniting the season, including extending the season and the option to resume the remaining season behind closed doors. It believes that concluding the season now is the most appropriate measure to guarantee the safety of the netball family, protect the long term future of all VNSL teams and ensure the VNSL can take necessary steps to come back in a strong position for a successful season in 2021.
Despite the 2020 season coming to an end now, the option of a standalone short form VNSL competition or potential event in the autumn – if it’s achievable and safe to do so – is still under review, in a bid to provide fans with the chance to see their favourite players in action.
Celtic Dragons fans who have purchased tickets for specific fixtures in the 2020 season will receive information from our official ticketing partner, Ticketline in due course with additional information on what happens next.
The financial impact on losing the 2020 season will have a significant effect on Celtic Dragons and the other Superleague teams. Therefore, in addition to the right to a refund, Celtic Dragons will be offering fans the option of gifting the cost of the ticket to the franchise. This will help Dragons to better weather the storm of the Coronavirus pandemic and come back stronger for the prospective 2021 season. We are extremely grateful for the support of our Green Army and gifting the cost of your ticket will allow us to continue to bring elite netball to Wales and inspire the next generation of Welsh netballers.
If you have bought a ticket for the 2020 VNSL Grand Final you will need to visit England Netball’s website for information on their refunds process.
